"On our path, we travel along the seeker/master continuum being one or the other, or at times, both simultaneously. We gather what we have the capacity to hold, and share what we understand to be of value to others. It's important to be discerning in what we share, as our understanding is colored by our experiences and may not be objectively true or of value to another." Excerpt from the story for the painting Imparting Wisdom.
I believe that the purpose of art, be it visual, performance, or literary, is to expand the consciousness of those with whom it's shared. And because not all humans are wired in exactly the same way, the world is peopled with a variety of creatives each offering stimulus toward enlightenment in a variety of forms.
This belief is the motivation behind my paintings and my support of other creatives. I'm very grateful to Amy Ditto of Ghostwolf Gallery for being an early adopter of my figurative work and for allowing me to act on my beliefs. I'm grateful to the Albuquerque galleries that exhibit my, sometimes obtuse, visual stimulus and to the artists and patrons whose questions about my work quicken my own self-awareness. I'm also grateful to the AABA for designating me a Local Treasure in recognition of my efforts to open the minds of artists and patrons in our community.
