Sometimes when we try to change someone's opinion, they become more fixed in their opposing view. And after using fear, logic, or compassion, we walk away convinced that they're a brainless crustacean or a heartless intellectual. We feel bad, we unfriend them, we retreat into a shell of self-righteousness. That's when it might be beneficial to consider that there is more at play than what you were discussing.
